Greenwoods Hotel & Spa in Stock Road, Essex has a custom wedding building in the grounds with a choice of indoor or outdoor wedding ceremonies
Greenwoods Hotel wedding venue in Stock, Essex is a 17th Century building with original wood panelling and a beautiful main staircase. In the last few years, they have built a new garden building for your private wedding use. It’s large enough to seat 200 guests and accommodate 300 evening guests, for smaller weddings they have a divider that pulls across for a more intimate setting. Or you could choose the manor house or library for smaller weddings. The spacious garden room overlooks the grounds through large windows letting the light stream in and has its own private patio area too.

The Outside Ceremony

You can have your ceremony in the garden room or in warmer months you could opt for an outside wedding under the gazebo which is beautiful. The setting is really well laid out and I’ve photographed weddings up to 80 guests there but it can accommodate up to 150. It’s set back a little from the garden room and manor house so it’s very private and not overlooked.
The Grounds
As well as the ceremony area they have a few acres of well-maintained grounds including a sunken garden, views of the horses over the fields and many large mature trees and shrubs. A walk around the gardens is perfect for some lovely and varied couple photographs.
The Preparation Room
Situated at the top of the sweeping staircase is the bridal suite, where often one partner will choose to get ready. It has plenty of room, with views of the grounds and large windows to let a good amount of daylight through.
The Photos and Film
After the ceremony traditionally you’ll be served drinks and generally, it’s a good time to relax for a few minutes and mingle with your guests as they will be eager to congratulate you. There’s plenty of laughter and smiles normally so for the candid photography and film it’s a great time. The group shots can be taken right by the private patio outside the garden room with the backdrop of either the grounds or the manor house.
For those special couple photos it’s worth a 15-minute walk around the grounds. First, there is a tree-lined path beside the wedding gazebo which leads into the sunken garden. The garden has a fountain as its centrepiece with gravel baths and benches around the sides. A short walk along the gravel flower-lined path you can meander to the immaculate side lawn where there is an enormous pine tree and epic backdrop.
