Friern Manor wedding venue is an Historic Georgian Manor house with picturesque gardens, located in Essex

Friern Manor Country House Hotel is located in the Dunton Essex countryside and was built in the late 1700s. As you arrive the tree-lined driveway on the left feels private and secluded, this is a beautiful backdrop for the wedding couple's film and photographs. Inside you’ll get a feel for classic England combined with modern decor. Catering for large or small weddings with a choice of rooms. I’ve photographed and filmed here many times over the years and it’s always a pleasure to return.

The Bridal Suite

Friern Manor’s Bridal Suite is beautiful for pre-wedding photography. It’s spacious and filled with natural light and has a balcony overlooking the outside pond with a willow tree as the backdrop. It’s well-furnished and modern with daylight streaming through the windows and patio doors assisting with the preparations.

The Ceremony at Friern Manor

The South Lawns is the most popular area for the ceremony as the couple will exchange their vows in the South Lawns Conservatory with a large opening to the guests seated in the large awning, lined with silk. Often a pianist is hired and plays some songs on the grand piano at the back as the guests arrive. The large aisle will usually be lined with pedestals, urns and flowers. This whole area has been redeveloped with the outside area having a significant facelift.

The Outside

Well-planted gardens with a lily pond and a new patio built on the edge add interest to the venue and photos. The wedding couple will be guided to the front of the house straight after the ceremony to enjoy a celebratory drink. This will be the perfect time to take a walk around the grounds for the special couple shots before joining the guests on the lawns in the warmer months, or inside in the colder times. There’s plenty of interest outside for some group shots of family and friends with mature trees and shrubs and the lily pond to frame your photos.

The Group Photos

The Group photos can be taken on the lawn area with plants, trees and shrubs in the background. On sunny days the tall conifers provide shade and the ground can be positioned overlooking the pond area. It’s all close to hand so arranging the groups is easy at Friern Manor. The layout flows nicely from the lawn area to the huge conservatory and through to the breakfast and evening room.

The Couple Photos at Friern Manor

With the ceremony complete the wedding planner will take you to the front of the house and serve you a drink. It’s a great place to start the couple portraits as it’s secluded and away from the guests. With combined photo and video packages some drone shots here are a beautiful start. Walking around the perimeter of Friern Manor provides loots of nice areas to get varied shots. Walking down the pebbled lane with the brickwork and planting area and finishing the other side in the separate garden area by the wedding marquee. Once completed it’s time to join the guests agin in the main garden area.

The Wedding Breakfast and Evening

The main room for your wedding breakfast is fair sized and will be transformed into the evening area with tables seating and a dance floor. The cake cutting will take place on the dance floor and once cut will be quickly removed by the staff and the first dance will commence. This room joins onto the large conservatory where the evening buffet will be served. Guess will be enjoying their evening on the dance-floor, at the tables, in the conservatory or on the patio and lawn area. All of which are intertwined, one of the best laid out venues and it all looks great too.
